FAQ's

Windows 10 USERS: Click to configure IE 11 as Default Browser.

Firefox updated to Version 40 or later and turned off GuardedID.

Firefox ended support for all binary extensions, including GuardedID's toolbar. CryptoColor is supported in Internet Explorer only at this time. A CryptoColor plug-in is in development. Look for it later in 2016.

How does GuardedID warn of clickjacking?

Web coding allows a single web page to be constructed from different items (ads, images, links, etc.) in "frames". Normally, the frames all come from a single domain (like guardedid.com) but they may come from other domains (ad servers, media servers, etc.). Clickjacking uses this normally helpful feature to trick users by showing the expected web page but overlaying or underlaying some other unexpected page from a different domain. GuardedID can warn the user when content is not from the same domain.

If false content is hidden in an invisible overlay, GuardedID makes it visible. If the content is hidden underneath, GuardedID draws red borders around it. Either way, the user can be fully aware of the content and then be cautious of his/her movements on the page.

How Do I get rid of the Red Border dashes?

If you don't like the Red Border dashes appearing, click on the Manage button in the GuardedID toolbar, click on preferences and click on the preference “Show red border around frames from other sites.” The box should uncheck and the Red Borders will not show up again on your computer until you change the preference.

What are the Red Border dashes?

The Red Border dashes show you frames (e.g., ads, information, etc.) from other sites. A clickjack trick can compromise your information. Therefore Red Borders alert you to be cautious when clicking within the outlined area.

What should I do if I get "Unknown Driver Warning"?

You can press OK and GuardedID will operate normally but with the Warn indicator set on the toolbar.

If you are not sure of the driver, have a trained technician exam your computer for malware before you visit web sites that will ask for secret information.

If you believe the driver is valid you can click "Don't warn me again" to suppress the dialog. The warning dialog will only display once each day with the "Don't warn.." selection.

Contact the vendor or provider of the driver and try to get a signed / registered version of the driver. If there no signed or registered versions of the driver, inform GuardedID support about the driver and its vendor.

Why do I get "Unknown Driver Warning"?

GuardedID monitors keyboard drivers. If an untrusted driver is discovered, GuardedID warns the user by showing the "Unknown Driver Warning" dialog. The name of the suspect driver is displayed in the dialog. The GuardedID state indicator will turn orange instead of green to indicate warning. Details are logged into the event log which can be viewed by clicking on "Event Viewer" under "Manage" on the GID toolbar.

What is an "Untrusted Driver" and why might I have one?

Drivers are programs on your PC used to communicate with various devices like keyboard, mouse, disk etc. GuardedID monitors the keyboard drivers. When GuardedID sees a driver change, it verifies that the driver is properly registered. If not, the driver will be flagged as an "unknown driver" and the warning is issued.

What is Warn mode?

GuardedID warns you when it encounters an unknown keyboard driver. Once you press OK, GuardedID continues with normal operation except for the GuardedID status indicator which turns orange instead of green. GuardedID is warning you of uncertain security status. This state is Warn mode. GuardedID remains in this mode until the unknown keyboard driver is updated or removed.
